You cannot enter with phone photos or photocopies. The Meridian Gate (午门) police inspect physical chip passports at manual lanes.
Lighters/matches, unlabelled power banks (must have clear legible Wh / mAh markings under 100Wh), and drones/tripods.
Inside Facilities: Seated Toilets & Drinking Water
Available inside Meridian Gate western corridor, adjacent to the Treasure Gallery, and Gate of Divine Prowess (North Exit).
Hot and ambient filtered water dispensers located next to Forbidden City official tea stops. Carry an insulated flask.
Automated GPS headset available for rent at Meridian Gate for ¥40 RMB. Returns automatically at the North Exit.
Transit & Arrival (Tiananmen Security Perimeter)
Walk 800m north through the perimeter security queue. Keep your physical passport accessible before approaching Tiananmen security barricades. All visitor entry is one-way from South (Meridian Gate) to North (Gate of Divine Prowess).
